Eagles, Signs, and Surprises

Dear friends💜,

I am sending love and a warm hug to you:) January has always been a cold and difficult month for me here in Iowa, but what gets me through is the returning of the light. The clouds of December melt away into frigid clear skies with gorgeous sunrises (that I'm awake for:) and sweeping sunsets that slowly creep later and later. Last week, we had a few unusually warm days. I took a walk and lifted my face to the sun, felt the ever so gentle warmth and let the white light seer into my soul. Have you ever had a moment where everything melts away and you feel at one with the earth and sky? This was one of those moments.

As my journey of healing has become more focused and intense these past three years, I have been given many signs from nature that seem to reinforce what is on my heart. While self-recording and mixing my album over the last seven months , I have been spotting eagles flying right over me just when I am questioning my path. The soaring power of their flight is magnificent and the black and white stark contrast from below seems to affirm the healing energy that comes when both dark and light are in balance together.

During this time, I have been reminded again and again to let go of my fears, ask for help, light my candles both externally and internally, and trust and believe in the sanctity of my own essence, my truth, my love, my soul. This month, I want to share with you a Langston Hughes poem that has been on my inspiration board for many years. Although it was written specifically about Hellen Keller, I have found adopting it for myself to be powerful.

She,
In the dark,
Found light
Brighter than many ever see.
She,
Within herself,
Found loveliness,
Through the soul's own mastery.
And now the world receives
From her dower:
The message of the strength
Of inner power.
-Langston Hughes

Today, I am SO EXCITED to share two things. First is a JUST FOR YOU sneak peek at a cut from the video shoot of my song Rising Free with my videographer Ian Bennett. This title song will be the last song on the album -- the culmination of the healing journey.

The album Rising Free: a journey of healing takes the listener from the depths of despair to affirmation and healing through exploring anger, grief, sacredness, community, and the power of the voice.

Secondly, I am sending off my final mixes to a mastering engineer on Monday so I can order CDs and vinyl to be ready for my

ALBUM RELEASE CONCERT!!!

Sunday, March 23rd - 2pm @Riverside Theatre IC, IA

Folks in the audience will get to hear my entire album live and be the first ones to have the opportunity to purchase a digital download, CD, or vinyl to help support my labor of love!

I will then open orders up for my readers the next day and, a month later, I will launch it on all of the streaming platforms.

As soon as I get the ticketing worked out with the theatre, please be on the lookout for one extra email this month with the reveal of the album cover and a link for concert tickets:)

I started composing these songs two and a half years ago and I have spent the last year experimenting, learning, and recording to self-produce this album. If you enjoyed the sneak peek and know of someone that might be interested in my music, I would be so grateful if you would forward this email and encourage them to check out my monthly letters and subscribe here.

This is quite an endeavor for me, and I am so thankful for you; your support and your love. Remember to light that candle within and be on the lookout for signs, because once you start seeking they begin to appear in the most unexpected places!

Sending lots of love and light to you,

Dear friends💜, Happy May Day! Did you know the old Celtic name for May Day is Beltane which is derived from Gaelic meaning 'Bel-fire', the fire of the Celtic god of light? I remember in my young childhood decorating little green plastic strawberry containers with my mother to make May baskets full of homemade goodies for our neighbors. Spring is so full of light, hope, new life and aching beauty. In Iowa, this week feels like the essence of spring. Brilliant blossoms contrasted with crisp...

Dear friends💜, I am sending you a warm hug from Iowa:) The spring equinox has passed and suddenly there is more light than dark. I don't know about you, but anxiety often rises in me during spring. I can't quite pinpoint its root, but it seems to be linked with all of the growing energy building and swirling around me. Shoots of grass, daffodils, buds on the trees, little leaves on the lilac bush, birds singing loudly... combined with the surge of pollen that reminds me that I have asthma....

Dear friends💜, I hope this letter finds you safe and warm. So much change, division, unrest, hate and misunderstanding abound, and when I get overwhelmed with life, I simply have to rest. John O'Donohue, one of my favorite authors, says something along the lines of when you have been running at too fast a pace, you must rest to let your soul catch up with your body. I have to remember that often because I tend to sprint one day and crash the next. My heart is full of so many emotions these...
