Following Where the Wind Takes You

Dear friend 💜,

Do you ever get that restless feeling — the one where you dream of packing up everything and just seeing where the road leads?

Maybe you’ve done some traveling this summer. A family vacation, visiting relatives, the beach, the mountains. My family has a bit of wanderlust deep in our bones. After starting seminary and feeling unsure of his calling, my dad once set off to travel the world for six months with little more than the clothes on his back — worrying his mother half to death, and eventually came home unshaved and quite a few pounds thinner. My sister, a elementary music educator, has spent nearly every summer traveling the globe.

And over the last year and a half, I’ve finally had my own chance to roam — from the hills of Georgia to film a music video for world peace, to a holy well in Ireland, to Nashville, to Pennsylvania. Little by little, it’s been fulfilling a dream I’ve carried my whole life: to see the world.

This July, as I’ve been on the road, I keep asking myself why the world calls to me so strongly. And I know the answer. It’s the people. It’s the beautiful souls I meet along the way.

When I traveled to Ireland and attended a weekend spiritual retreat with Lorna Byrne, I met so many people who were passionate about spirituality, gathered from all over the world to explore the realm of the angels together. Even though we all attended this retreat to meet a woman who can see angels, the actual highlight of the weekend was meeting each other!

I think it just reinforced for me the power of gathering. Because for years now, I’ve quietly dreamed of what it might be like to connect all the extraordinary people I’ve met along my journeys — and the ones I haven’t met yet — who care so deeply about the meaning of life, self-discovery, growth, and spiritual searching.

Every single person is on a beautiful, unique journey that only their soul can take. And each of these lights carries its own struggles and hardships, its own hard-won wisdom and love. Here is what I believe with my whole heart: we can lift each other up. We can remind one another of our worth. And once we claim that worth, we can use our voices to share our beautiful light with the world.

As you’ve probably figured out by now — I’m a visionary. And for a few years, I’ve been trying to imagine a way to connect all of you, and others who wander across my path, in something real and meaningful, despite the distance between us.

I think social media is trying to fulfill that longing in us — but it so often lacks depth, safety, and sacred space. What I imagine is something different. A place where our souls can actually meet. Where we can learn about each other, share our unique stories and lights and voices, and be genuinely inspired by one another. When I picture it, the horizon of hope becomes clearer — and I have a feeling what unfolds will be far beyond anything any one of us could dream up alone.

Home Is Where the Heart Is

Because here's the truth I've been sitting with all month: as much as I love to wander, traveling with my family this summer reminded me how much I still miss home. There's a particular ache that comes with being away — a longing for the familiar, for the people who know you, for the places where you feel truly held. And I've realized that the community I'm dreaming of is really about that same feeling — except deeper, maybe something none of us have ever quite experienced. Because even when I'm home, I often find myself wishing for a place to belong that feels truly, deeply meaningful. And I imagine that we can create that together, no matter how far apart we are. A little piece of home, wherever we happen to be.

So I’m thrilled to tell you: next month, I’m opening a sacred space online — a place where I hope we can find, and build together, that little piece of home. The network will open at the first of the month and our very first gathering will be Sunday, September 13th at 7:00 PM Central — part welcome, part vocal meditation, and wholly an invitation to come home to your voice, together. We will then hopefully create gatherings that work for more time zones!

If you’d love to be part of this peace of home, simply reply to this email and let me know, or fill out the form at the bottom of my vocal empowerment webpage, and I’ll make sure you receive all the details on how to join. I cannot wait to welcome and connect everyone.

Back Home in the Studio

It truly was a wonderful month spending time with my loved ones. And now, as I settle back into the studio in Iowa City, I’m so excited to see all your familiar faces and hear your beautiful voices again — and to welcome some new ones, too.

I’m also thrilled to share a new remote offering for those who’d like to go a little deeper than a traditional voice lesson and work with me personally on finding their voice. Everyone’s journey is completely unique, so in this space I’ll walk beside you — supporting you in whatever way makes the most sense for you. If that calls to you, I’d love to chat. You can read more HERE, and if you are local to Iowa, check out the info below!

Because all it takes is believing that you are worthy, and that you carry the light.

I cannot wait to see what magic we create together.

With so much love and light,

💜Mary Jane🔥

Dear friend 💜, I hope that this letter meets you wherever you are and know that I am sending love to you even if we have never met. The brightest light of the year in the northern hemisphere is already beginning to recede, even as the reverberations of that light continue to bring intense heat to the Midwest. Isn't it interesting that the heat never peaks right when the days are longest? It always lags behind. The sun's effects take time to fully arrive. It seems much like my own dream and...

Dear friend 💜, As I find myself hurtling closer to the sun on this crazy orb we call the Earth, I am filled with energy, excitement, anxiety, and fear all at once. How have you been? Have you been desperately trying to hold onto the reins as we gallop toward the longest day of the year? I sure have. This year it feels fitting that on the summer solstice — the longest day of the year, the night Shakespeare immortalized in A Midsummer Night's Dream — I will be on stage reigning as the Queen of...

Dear friend 💜, I can’t believe it’s already May! Everything is finally green and growing in Iowa, and the light feels so magical and bright. I just got back from a long road trip—driving across the country with my keyboard to attend a music conference and perform. Driving out, I was recovering from being sick and was just happy to sit and rest, but on the way back I spent many hours just pondering, and I found myself thinking about education and access. Partly because the conference was aimed...
