Dear friends💜,
I hope this letter finds you safe and warm. So much change, division, unrest, hate and misunderstanding abound, and when I get overwhelmed with life, I simply have to rest. John O'Donohue, one of my favorite authors, says something along the lines of when you have been running at too fast a pace, you must rest to let your soul catch up with your body. I have to remember that often because I tend to sprint one day and crash the next.
My heart is full of so many emotions these days and holding them all is quite a challenge, but the greatest emotion that keeps spilling out is love. For you, for our country, for Mother Earth, and for every human and creature on this planet. Infinite love like the lyric in my song Beyond: "A tapestry weaving us together, each soul into beauty."
With the scarcity and fear mindset that we are faced with everyday, it is so comforting to me to think about the infinite amount of love that I can posses, share and receive and how it is that love -- within everything -- that weaves us together into the most majestic and gorgeous tapestry that we can only imagine. Each day we are gifted glimpses of that beauty, flashes of light, feelings, and connection. This is the love that can connect us beyond the present and the seen to our ancestors and souls around the world. We are that beautiful tapestry of light and dark, hurt and anger, fear and joy, sorrow and love. If only we can open our hearts to feel the tug of threads surrounding us and holding us together. It feels like at the moment we are unraveling and being rethreaded into a new, more beautiful masterpiece than any of us can imagine; but this unraveling is painful.
Winds of Change
A soft ripple through the trees
far away.
Echoes of a distant shore
sweeping nearer, nearer, nearer
suddenly roaring with violent intensity
forcing me to root down
deeper, slower, surer
lest I blow away
leaving my body behind.
The deafening roar
can no longer be ignored,
violently stripping trees
of old branches,
making space
for the new.
Undeniable pain and loss
in plain sight.
Screaming for help.
Demanding our care
to midwife in
the new.
Tomorrow yet unseen,
all we can do
is care for today.

And so today I fee like I am both mothering and midwifing my first self-produced album Rising Free: a journey of healing. When I was finishing the tracks I had a very powerful birth dream and pain in my back and hips and now I have been having lots of dreams about caring for young vulnerable children and waking up entirely too early!
With this album I hope to inspire listeners to claim their worthiness and find the power of their voices. I can't wait to share this album on March 23rd intimately in my concert and around the world on all streaming platforms. If you are local, it would be such a gift to have you there💜.
A few weeks ago on a very snowy night, my videographer Ian Bennett and I waded through a foot of fresh snow to film our second video of my song Gathering in a dark sanctuary at a church in town. It was truly a magical night and I want to share with you a little clip of footage just for you!
This song was inspired by a poem I wrote when I attended a women's gathering. The song speaks to the unvoiced history of women and asks the question "What if we gathered together and dared to bare our souls, our voices rising in chorus with power to change the world?" So, I am planning on releasing it on International Women's Day, March 8th. Subscribe to my YouTube channel @maryjaneknightmusic to watch the full video that day and share with friends! This will be the first track from my album to be released publicly.
I am also excited to share with you that I will be performing as an emerging artist and competing with two other acts in the emerging artist competition as well as presenting two workshops at the National Women's Music Festival this summer! Attending the festival was life changing last year and I can't wait share my songs this year!
I am thinking of you this month and I hope you will send positive energy my way as I release my music into this world.
Sending much love and light,
